ReelQ is an annual film festival hosted by The Pittsburgh Lesbian & Gay Film Society and programs approximately 20 first-run LGBTQ+ themed feature length films and 30+ short films. Pittsburgh Artistic Organizationsĭreams of Hope gives LGBTQA+ youth a space to grow in confidence, express themselves, and become leaders through the arts. Now, their goal is to end discrimination, ban conversion therapy, and add sexual orientation and gender identity to the ethnic intimidation law. Pennsylvania Equality Project is the largest grassroots LGBTQ+ organization in PA and was founded in 2011 as Marriage Equality for Pennsylvania. The organization unites young LGBT leaders to ensure issues facing them are addressed in local and state government. The Pennsylvania Youth Congress aims to advance justice for young LGBT Pennsylvanians by encouraging responsible public policy.
The LGBT National Help Center provides free and confidential peer-support and local resources. They envision a world in which every LGBTQ person has a right to create and cultivate a loving family. Nationalįounded in 2002, the NGLCC is the largest advocacy organization dedicated to expanding economic opportunities and advancements for LGBT people.įamily Equality looks to advance legal and lived equality for LGBTQ families and for those who wish to form them. The West Co Pride Project is dedicated to creating more community opportunities for LGBTQ individuals in Westmoreland County. The Westmoreland LGBTQ Interfaith Network is a nonprofit organization which hopes to affirm and encourage the spirituality of LGBTQ individuals and their friends. They believe that the social issues present in Westmoreland can only be addressed by long, consistent effort and sustained commitment. The Coalition aims to promote diversity and generate greater acceptance in Westmoreland. Some of their initiatives include making schools a safer and more welcoming space for LGBTQ+ children and bringing free learning sessions straight to members’ computers. PFLAG has over 400 chapters and 200,000 members and is the largest organization for LGTBQ+ people, their families, and allies. In honor of Pride, we’ve gathered up a list of LGBTQ+ organizations ranging from national, to statewide, to right here in Greensburg. Today, LGBTQ Pride Month celebrations include pride parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia and concerts, attracting millions of participants around the world. This uprising marked the beginning of a movement to outlaw discriminatory laws and practices against LGBTQ Americans. In June of 1969, patrons and supporters of the Stonewall Inn staged an uprising to resist the police harassment and persecution to which LGBTQ Americans were commonly subjected. LGBTQ Pride Month is commemorated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City. We’re so excited that it’s finally June, because June doesn’t just mean warmer weather and no school, but also that it’s officially Pride Month!
